Doctrine Of God 1

These truths were taught by Pastor Kent McBay. Though they are very basic, it is vital that we get them right. They can help us to know more about God and know Him better. They can make us more willing and able to trust Him, worship Him and be blessed by Him. It is profitable to EVERY Christian at every level of spiritual growth to know and review them. Much in these articles will be direct quotes from Pastor McBay and his outlines and some will be from my inexact notes.

The purpose of this study is to see the person of God as revealed in the Word of God.

One. There is only one God. Any other so-called Gods are simple idols.

Isaiah 44:6: Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Two. This one God is a TRI-personality, that is, one in three and three in one.

1 John 5:7: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, (Jesus) and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Genesis 1:26a: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: . . .

It is clear from the first chapter of Genesis and several others that more than one personality make up the Godhead.

Genesis 3:22a: And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: . . .

Genesis 11:5-8: And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another*s speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Matthew 3:16-17: And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 28:19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Three. God is a living God and is in every sense, a person. This is true of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. To will and to love are characteristics of personality, and God does both.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 6:39: And this is the Father*s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

In these verses we see that God loves and He has a will. Anyone who would read the Bible through would find that God has all the outstanding (both major and minor) characteristics of personality.

This is the wonderful thing about Bible Christianity. We do not worship creeds or churches. We do not worship idols made of wood or stone. Rather, our God is a person. We can know Him personally. We can walk with Him and talk to Him and have fellowship with Him.
